EXPERIENCE THE OLD BOISE MODEL RAILROAD

WE ARE OPEN TUESDAYS AND SATURDAYS!

Regular Hours: Tuesday 6 pm-9 pm & Saturdays 10 am-2 pm

THE OLD BOISE MODEL RAILROAD CLUB

Welcome to the Old Boise Model Railroad! The railroad depicts scenes from across the Western U.S. and various types of railroads. You’ll find large industries, small towns, ports, plants, lumber mills and mines. Different types of rail equipment support each of these industries: box cars, flat cars, hoppers, auto racks (rail cars for carrying automobiles), passenger cars and the modern container train.

Located in the basement of the historic Pioneer Building in downtown Boise, the club has been constructing and operating this complex model railroad since 2001. The layout is a permanent display of more than 1,800 square feet, 50 scale miles of track and 210 switches.

After moving from the Mezzanine level in 2015, the Old Boise Model Railroad Club has expanded the layout, its membership and visitor roster. We have added new scenery, industries and trains to the layout, including an entire new ‘canyon’ section with high bridges and an under-mountain tunnel. The club runs a mix of steam and transition-era equipment right up to the most modern of diesels and container trains.

As you first enter the club, you will be at the end of Pioneer Yard, the largest yard on the layout where most trains depart and return to. In this yard, cars can be sorted and placed in trains headed for specific industries or destinations. The most interesting way to get to know the layout is to find a moving train and follow it around the track.

Our club is open year-round on Tuesday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 2 pm.  We are also open for our traditional Holiday Shows which take place each Saturday between Thanksgiving and New Years – from 10am to 4pm.

We hold Spring, Summer and Fall Open House events: dates and times will be announced on our events page as soon as they are confirmed. You can also find more information on the Old Boise Events Page or by following us on Facebook!
